Community
Adult
Adult Sunday School Classes, Sundays, 9:45 – 10:45am. An informal discussion group meets in Fellowship Hall, when there are no special, short-term studies going on.
Family & Children
Children’s Worship. Families are welcome to have children attend the regular service in the church sanctuary. Children may leave, if they wish, after the Children’s Time for Children’s Church. They return to their parents during the last hymn or for communion. Children’s Church includes Bible lessons and activities led by experienced teachers. Children are also welcome to stay in the regular worship service. Please visit with our Director of Children’s Ministry, Cas Longo. Visit the Children’s Page for more information on Youth news and events at Grace.
Fellowship & Study
The Grace Notes Choir.  Weekly rehearsals are on Sunday mornings (9:15 – 10:45 AM). If you’ve wanted to sing with the choir but couldn’t manage weeknight rehearsals, now’s the perfect time to join. Music ranges from hymns and gospel to works of the great m
asters. Full choir, a cappella, quartet, solo, and instrumental music can be heard during Grace services. The choir is supplemented by traditional organ and piano. Music director is Stefen Kane and organist/pianist is Les Young. If you are interested in joining the choir, please contact Stefen (stefenkane@gmail.com).
Dinner for Six/Eight. The Nurture Team randomly selects these groups based on a list of those who would like to participate. This is an opportunity for dinner and a chance for fellowship outside of the church. Each participant prepares and brings a part of the meal. Participation in outside group activities such as concerts, plays, games, etc. are often combined with dinner to make for a very enjoyable gathering for all involved.
Study Special classes and study series occur throughout the year, usually including Advent and Lenten study series. Announcements about upcoming classes are made in Worship Service and appear in the Pulpit & Pew monthly newsletter and on the website. Call the church office for information.
Outreach/Volunteer
Grace endeavors to meet the needs of our community through participation in several outreach and volunteer opportunities.
SoCo Ministries is a cooperative of Grace UMC, Christ Lutheran and South Congress Avenue Baptist churches. Â This program helps people who come to the church seeking assistance get through the day, by providing a sack lunch and sometimes personal hygiene utems, while we try to match them with longer term help.
Grace is used by the South Austin Caregivers (contact at 445-5552) for office space, and is also a meeting place for the South River City Citizens group.
South Austin Assistance Ministry (SAAM), a coalition of congregations in South Austin whose goal is to help fill gaps that remain after the Travis County Health and Human Services community center has exhausted all its resources in behalf of those who are in need, provided support of various kinds to 111 needy families in 2010. This includes $11,566.73 in supplemental rental fees, $4,171.52 for utilities and $168.87 for prescriptions. Grace UMC is a contributor to the $16,966.12 provided by the above mentioned congregations of South Austin for this work in 2010, not to speak of a considerable amount of clothing for the clothes closet maintained in the Travis County office. If anyone wishes to contribute money or clothing please contact Grace UMC (442-5944) or John Jordan (450-8442), Grace UMC’s representative to SAAM.
