WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) – The founder and executive director of the Warren Family Mission has passed away suddenly.

Pastor Chris Gilger founded the mission in 1998.

“He was my boss, he was like a father figure in my life, he saved my life,” said Dominic Mararri, public relations director of Warren Family Mission.

On Tuesday he was driving back from West Virginia, where he was driving to pick up someone who needed help.

“Pastor Chris died doing something he loved. He went to West Virginia to look for someone with addiction and was going to bring him back here to the Warren Family Mission, ”Mararri said.

However, the person never showed up. On his way back, he parked his car near Ravenna and turned on his turn signals. State officials later found him dead in the car.

“I spoke to the chairman of the board and he said he spoke to Pastor Chris around 5:45 pm and was about 45 minutes from his house, which corresponds to that time in Ravenna. I think the Ohio State Patrol informed the family mission around midnight, ”he said.

Mararri says they believe he died of a heart health problem.

“I think of the Bible and I think of the 99 sheep. Jesus left the 99 sheep to go get one, and that is what Pastor Chris did daily. He died alive being a servant of Christ, ”he said.

Mararri says Pastor Gilger was a great man who has helped many people and impacted many lives. He said they are all going to miss him a lot.

Her family is still working on the funeral arrangements and will let the public know once they are made.
