Senior Pastor JJ Vasquez said they initially pledged $ 5,000, but their generous congregation made $ 30,000 a reality.

“People want to make a difference, but they just need an opportunity. Say, ‘Hey, we’re doing this for our community, we can do it for our school. Would you be in it? ‘ I don’t think this part was difficult at all. People just want the opportunity to do something positive in the crazy world we live in today, ”Vasquez said.

Principal Nancy Urban was at church service to receive the check. She said the school’s media center had not undergone a major modernization since the 1980s and that with budget cuts other projects were given priority.

Now the school will be able to repaint, redecorate and upgrade technology, such as computers.

Urban attended English Estates as a child and said her dream was always to come back professionally.

“I think English Estates is my home. And that’s one of those things that I wanted to be a teacher there and it never worked, and I sometimes say God has a different way for you and my way was to come back and be the main one. She said.

Vasquez said his church’s mission is to make Jesus accessible to everyone and to improve the lives of not only those who attend church, but also those who live in the community.

“Before you try to change the world, change your backyard. I think that’s what really drew us to English Estates. This is our backyard, ”he said. “If you never hear me preach, maybe you’ll turn on the news and hear what we’ve done in Jesus name and it’ll make this whole idea of religion accessible to you.”
