Reverend Father John G. Greaves, 90, Pastor Emeritus of Former St. Ann Parish, Cranston, passed away on Monday December 6, 2021.

Born in Providence, Rhode Island, son of the late John G. and Mary A. (Bailey) Greaves, he attended Saint Paul School in Cranston and La Salle Academy in Providence.

In preparation for the priesthood, he attended Our Lady of Providence seminary in Warwick and American College in Leuven, Belgium. He was ordained a priest on June 29, 1958 by Bishop Joseph P. Hurley in Louvain, Belgium.

Following his ordination, Father Greaves was appointed Deputy Pastor of SS Peter and Paul Cathedral of Providence, where he served until his assignment as Deputy Pastor of Saint Michael of Providence Parish in 1964. In 1968 he was appointed transferred to Saint Rose Parish in Warwick as Assistant Pastor and served as Assistant Pastor in Saint Teresa Parish in Pawtucket from 1971 to 1976.

In 1976 Father Greaves was appointed Pastor of St. Mary’s Parish in Providence, and in 1991 he was transferred as Pastor to St. Ann’s Parish in Cranston where he served until 2001 when he served. retired as parish priest emeritus.

Father Greaves served as the dean of the deanery of the deanery of Providence No. 4 for two terms and served as president of the council of the staff of priests.

After his retirement he resided in Bristol and spent a lot of time in Naples, Florida, where he helped various parishes. He was residing in Naples, Florida at the time of his death.

Visitations will be held at Saint Ann’s Church in Saint George Parish, 1493 Cranston Street, Cranston on Tuesday, December 14 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. with a concelebrated Christian burial mass which will be offered for the rest of the father’s soul at 11 a.m. .

Interment will follow at Saint Ann’s Cemetery, Cranston.

The funeral was entrusted to Urquhart-Murphy Funeral Home, 800 Greenwich Avenue, Warwick.
