Secretary and pastor hijacked from North Carolina church, sheriff says

East North Carolina church secretary accused of embezzling hundreds of thousands of dollars with help from pastor – who happens to be her ex-husband, law enforcement said .

Wendi Wishnefsky McLamb, 52, went to the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday for embezzlement and conspiracy, a spokesperson told McClatchy News. There is an outstanding arrest warrant against her husband, Ransom Wade McLamb Jr, 54.

Wendi McLamb’s bond has been set at $ 150,000, the spokesperson said.

According to the arrest warrants, Wendi McLamb was secretary and treasurer of Sabbath Home Baptist Church, where Ransom McLamb was the pastor.

Sabbath Home is in Supply, North Carolina, an unincorporated community nestled midway between Wilmington and North Myrtle Beach in Brunswick County. A church representative did not immediately respond to McClatchy News’ request for comment on Wednesday.

The couple are accused of embezzling $ 136,036 from the church over six years using debit and credit cards as well as “bank transactions.” The alleged diet lasted from January 2014 to December 2020.

Wendi McLamb’s home address is within 500 feet of the church, according to the arrest warrant. Ransom McLamb is listed as living at an address near Bolton, NC.

A representative from the sheriff’s office described the couple as “separated”.
