St. Mark’s Launches Classic City Church | The star

AUBURN – After preaching at the 9am church service at St Mark’s Lutheran Church in Auburn on Sunday, Reverend Jon Hunter will literally walk across the street to the Cupbearer Cafe in downtown Auburn, where St. Mark’s is launching the new Classic City Church.

The new church, housed inside the café, will hold services every week starting at 11 a.m.

Hunter said Classic City Church will provide another expression of church that is relaxed and a place for people to come and ask questions.

“It’s going to be a whole different style of worship,” Hunter said.

“Here (in Saint-Marc), we have a very traditional setting. We have very traditional organ music, but in Classic City it will be a very modern cult.

“It’s going to be noisy. We’re going to have guitars and keyboards and really, it’s just a different heart language for people to connect with Jesus. This is really what we hope for through Classic City.

“The goal is to reach people who don’t have a church home, who want to explore the faith, who want to ask questions. We really welcome people and we want to help people start and grow in a relationship with Jesus.

Hunter said the messages he will deliver to Classic City Church will be similar to the messages he will preach in St. Mark’s, but will be contextualized for a different audience.

“We are looking for people who would not normally enter a church, I think, open and faith-seeking people, but who do not currently have a church house, but might find it too intimidating to enter. in a traditional setting, and that’s why we provide a kind of modern, relaxed environment, ”said Hunter.

“We really want to create a space that is inviting and where people are free to ask and explore and not be afraid to ask these questions. “

Jason Slone will be the cult leader for Classic City Church.

“Jason is a great and talented musician. We are really lucky to have him on our team, ”said Hunter.

“I think we’re really excited to start. We believe that Jesus called us here for a time and a purpose. We believe this is his church and that he will do something great through this and through this community. We really hope this blesses the community. We really want to bless the people and show the love of Jesus to the people of Auburn and DeKalb County.
